Alstare and Globasol cooperate in the research and development of second generation bio-fuel.
Team Alstare Suzuki had the honour and the pleasure of being guest of Globasol of the special event held in Boca Chica (Santo Domingo) last Friday April 11th when Globasol presented their project for the production of 60.000 tons per year of bio-diesel starting from 2009.
Globasol Energías Renovables is a company of Globalia – the Spanish group of which Alstare’s sponsor Pepephone is part too - whose core business is the development of all kinds of clean energy, such as photovoltaic energy and bio-fuel.
Daniel Suarez - the general director of the company – explained that Globasol will build a plant for the implementation of the whole bio-diesel production cycle from the raw material up to the commercialization -in Dominican Republic and other countries of the Caribbean - market and even the recycling of the waste oil. Such a project – which requires an investment of 50 millions euros - implies the cultivation of 37.000 hectares of public land managed by the Dominican Government under the form of a co-operative company and will create 12.000 jobs in the poorest area of the country.
The bio-diesel produced in the newly built plant will be made out of an oleaginous plant coming from Brazil : the Jatropha Curcas. The advantage of Jathropa Curcas is that it is easy to grow, does not require sewing, labouring, nor the use of pesticides or other polluting products. Moreover it is not edible so it does not affect the agro-alimentary industry, avoiding all the problems connected with the production of other kind of bio-fuel.
The event – held in the enchanting atmosphere of the Hotel Oasis Amaca beach - culminated with the presentation of an ATV functioning with bio-fuel. After months of research and thanks to the support of Suzuki and Magneti Marelli, Alstare proudly unveiled its bio-ATV obtained through the adaptation of a traditional engine to the bio-fuel, an experiment entirely carried out by Alstare’s technicians in its Belgian workshop.
The ATV was tested by Team Alstare rider Fonsi Nieto who made a demonstration of his riding ability for the pleasure of the guests attending the event.
The development of bio-ATV was the first achievement of a research made by Alstare engineers on small engines working with bio-fuel which next step will be the development of a racing bike engine alimented with 60% of bio-ethanol and finally the development of bio-diesel engines. In fact the goal of the synergy between Alstare and Globasol is the presentation of a prototype of agricultural ATV working with bio-diesel which is expected for the end of 2008.
José Vicente Galindo (manager of Globasol biofuel division), Javier Hidalgo (chairman of Globasol), Fonsi Nieto (rider of Team Alstare Suzuki), Daniel Suárez (General Manager of Globasol), Arístides Fernández Zucco (Chairman of the National Energy Committee of Dominican Republic
(CNE)).
