It is Sylvain’s first visit to the very technical Miller circuit, but the Frenchman knows all too well that he should have finished higher up the leaderboard after two one hour sessions. Jakub Smrz (Ducati) set the quickest lap of qualifying, with a time of 1:48.517, three tenths of a second inside the lap record. Second today was Michel Fabrizio (Ducati), with Cal Crutchlow (Yamaha) third.

Leon - 4th, 1:48.734

I think today was pretty good and I certainly got a feel for the track this morning. This afternoon we used some of the good stuff (tyres) that we’ll be racing on and I am pretty happy with how we got on. We had a bit of a chatter problem today and it was worse the more aggressive I was, but not so bad when I rode smoothly. Though when I rode very smoothly, my lap times were not so good! The general layout of this track needs a very different set-up to Kyalami in the last round and although our current set-up is not bad, we will try and improve it and the balance of the bike tomorrow. The aim tomorrow is to work on getting a good set-up and making sure that the tyres will last a race distance OK.

Sylvain - 17th, 1:50.133

Not sure what to say really, except that I have been learning the track OK and the afternoon felt a lot better than the morning. I know that doesn’t seem much, when you consider I ended 17th today, but this track is very technical and it is difficult to knock off those last fractions of a second which are so important. I think the track is good and I like it very much. I know there’s quite a bit more to come from me and tomorrow we’ll work on improving the balance of the bike and finding a good set-up. I had some brake problems today - inconsistency - and that’s another area we will have to sort out tomorrow.

Molte volte in questa stagione i due piloti Suzuki Alstare hanno avuto sorti miste il primo giorno di qualifiche e anche oggi al Motorsport Park Miller non ci sono state eccezioni. Leon si è qualificato con un comodo quarto posto, invece Sylvain ha lottato e ha concluso la giornata con un umile deciassettesimo. E' la prima volta che Sylvain prova sul questo circuito molto tecnico, ma il francese sa bene che avrebbe dovuto finire più in alto in classifica dopo due sessioni da un'ora. Jakub Smrz (Ducati) ha ottenuto il giro più veloce delle qualifiche, con un tempo di 1:48.517, a tre decimi del record sul giro. Secondo oggi è stato Michel Fabrizio (Ducati), con Cal Crutchlow (Yamaha) terzo.

Penso che oggi sia stato abbastanza positivo e certamente ho testato la pista questa mattina.Nel pomeriggio abbiamo utilizzato alcune cose buone ( gomme) che useremo in gara e sono felice di quello che abbiamo ottenuto. Abbiamo avuto un po 'un problema di chattering ed è stato il peggiore ache abbia avuto, ma non così male quando ho iniziato a girare tranquillamente. Anche se quando ho girato molto agevolmente, i miei tempi sul giro non sono stati così buoni! Questo tracciato ha bisogno di un diverso set-up della moto rispetto all'ultimo round di Kyalami e anche se il set-up attuale non è male, cercheremo di migliorarlo per avere un bilanciamento migliore domani. L'obiettivo di domani è quello di lavorare per ottenere un buon set-up e fare in modo che le gomme durino per tutta la gara.

Non so cosa dire veramente, se non che ho imparato la pista e che nel pomeriggio mi sono sentito molto meglio rispetto al mattino. So che non sembra molto, considerando che ho finito diciassettesimo, ma questa è una pista molto tecnica, ed è difficile limare gli ultimi decimi che sono così importanti. Penso che la pista è buona e mi piace molto. So che un bel po' deve venire da me e domani lavoreremo per migliorare il bilanciamento della moto e trovare un buon set-up. Ho avuto alcuni problemi ai freni oggi - inconsistenti- e questo è un'altra cosa che dovremo risolvere domani
