Leon fought tooth and nail with Max Biaggi (Aprilia) in both 22-lappers, and lost out on victory by the narrowest of margins - two tenths of a second in race one and just over a tenth in race two. Leon’s tally of forty points keeps him top of the standings, sixteen ahead of second placed Biaggi.

It was always going to be a hard day for Leon’s team mate Sylvain, starting from the third row of the grid, but the Frenchman put in a pair of solid performances, finishing 13th in the first race and ninth in the second.

Leon - Race 1: 2nd, Race 2: 2nd

If anybody had told me before the start of the season that I would’ve won one race and taken three podiums in the first four races, I would not have believed them. It’s a great feeling to win a race, take three runner-up spots and be leading the championship and my aim is to try and maintain this kind of consistency as long as I can. Today’s races were very hard and I had a lot of fun battling with Max. His bike is fast and there were a couple of places where he could get on the gas quicker than me, but my bike was good on the brakes. I did pass him quite a few times, but making it stick was a different matter. The grip level was down in race two, but it was the same for everybody, and the lap times were generally down on race one. The first time I jumped on the Suzuki Alstare bike I thought it was a good package and all the good work the team has done has proved how good it is. Of course, there are always some areas to improve and we’ll be going to the next round in Valencia hoping to put one over Max and all the other riders. I’ve had one victory and now I want more!

Sylvain - Race 1: 13th, Race 2: 9th

To be honest, I feel like I messed up the weekend a bit. Race one was a complete disaster and it all started when I braked too late for turn one on lap two and had to go straight on. That cost me a lot of positions and time and I was in 22nd place at the end of that lap and had a lot of catching up to do. After that, I never really found my rhythm and perhaps 13th was not too bad considering.The second race was better, but in this championship you cannot afford to be average. You have to be on your game at all times. I don’t know why, but I feel that I didn’t start the weekend quite right and then it was always going to be difficult. The bike is really good, so it’s me who has to raise the bar and perform. I intend to attack Valencia right from the start of the weekend and be in a good position come raceday.

Due secondi posti aumentano il distacco di Leon in campionato

Il Pilota del Team Suzuki Alstare, con i due superbi decondi posti di oggi nella seconda prova del Campionato Mondiale Superbike a Portimao, aumenta il suo vantaggio in testa alla Classifica. Leon ha combattuto con i denti stretti contro Max Biaggi (Aprilia) per tutti i 22 giri, e perso la vittoria per pochissimo, solo due decimi di secondo in gara uno, e poco più di un decimo in gara due. Leon con i quaranta punti ottenuti mantiene la testa alla classifica, secondo, a 16 punti di distacco, Biaggi.
E'stata una giornata difficile per il compagno di squadra di Leon, Sylvain
partito dalla terza fila della griglia ha terminato con un paio di prestazioni convincenti, 13a posizione in gara 1 e 9a in gara 2.

Leon - Gara 1: 2 °, Gara 2: 2 °

"Se qualcuno mi avesse detto prima dell'inizio della stagione che avrei vinto una gara e preso tre podi nelle prime quattro gare,non gli avrei creduto. E' una grande sensazione vincere una gara, fare tre podi ed essere in testa al campionato ed il mio obiettivo è quello di mantenere questo ritmo finché posso.
Oggi le gare sono state molto dure e mi sono divertito un sacco a lottare con Max. La sua moto era veloce e c'erano un paio di posti dove poteva aprire il gas prima di me, ma la mia moto andava bene in frenata. L'ho passato diverse volte, ma stare davanti è diverso.
Il livello di grip è diminuito in gara due, ma è stato lo stesso per
tutti, e i tempi sul giro sono stati più bassi di gara uno.
La prima volta che sono saltato sulla moto Suzuki Alstare ho pensato che era un
buon pacchetto e tutto l'ottimo lavoro che il team ha fatto ha dimostrato quanto lo è. Naturalmente, ci sono sempre alcune cose da poter migliore per andar meglio a Valencia sperando di stare davanti a Max e a tutti gli altri piloti. Ho avuto una vittoria e ora ne voglio ancora!"

Sylvain - Gara 1: 13 °, Gara 2: 9°

"Per essere onesto, mi sento come se avessi rovinato il week-end. Gara uno è stata un disastro completo, tutto è iniziato quando ho frenato troppo tardi al secondo giro e sono andato dritto. Questo mi è costato un sacco di
posizioni e di tempo e mi sono trovato in 22a posizione con moltissimo ritardo da recuperare. Dopo di che, non ho più trovato il mio ritmo, e considerando questo, forse il 13° posto non è poi così male.
La seconda gara è stata migliore, ma in questo campionato non puoi permetterti
di essere medio. Devi essere in gioco sempre. Non so il perchè, ma ho sentito che non avevo iniziato il week-end nella maniera giusta ed è stato difficile. La moto è veramente buona, quindi sono io che devo migliorare. A Valencia ho intenzione di attaccare fin dall'inizio del weekend e di essere in una buona posizione per la gara!"
