Leon’s team mate, Sylvain Guintoli, improved from yesterday and was charging towards the first two rows of the grid until the smallest of mistakes in Superpole 2 cost him a place in Superpole 3.

Cal Crutchlow took Superpole today, his third of the season, with Yamaha team mate James Toseland second. Third was Carlos Checa (Ducati) with Michel Fabrizio (Ducati) fourth. The pace of qualifying was no less frantic than usual and at the end, just one second separated the top thirteen riders.

Leon - 5th, 1:37.401

I’m pretty happy with fifth place today and I actually prefer it to fourth because it is a better place from which to attack the first turn. It’s an easier run and as long as I get a good start, I’m sure I’ll be there or thereabouts. I’m happy because my race pace is good and my lap times on race rubber are good. It’s going to be a tough day tomorrow and any one of about six or so riders could win a race. Kyalami is a difficult track to overtake on because there’s more or less only one racing line. When you get off that line, to pass somebody for example, it’s easy to get on a dirty and bumpy part of the track and make a mistake. The first corner is not very far away and after that there are a series of corners where it would be impossible to pass, so good starts are vital. Tomorrow morning we’ll make a a few little tweaks to the bike and see if we can improve it further. But, if not, then it’s ready to race and so am I.

Sylvain - 10th, 1:37.875

I am disappointed with my Superpole and but for a small mistake in a final split, I’m sure that I could have got into final Superpole. That would’ve given me at least a place on the second row, but now I will have to start tomorrow’s races from row three. The first corner is quite close and so it’s very important that I make two good starts. If I don’t, I’m going to be in trouble for sure and it’ll be difficult making up ground. The good news is that I’m happy with my race set-up and very happy with my race tyres. It’s a shame that I didn’t qualify better, because I’m sure that it would’ve made my two races easier. As I said before, this championship is so competitive and the lap times are so close and if you make the smallest of errors you get punished a lot.

Il pilota del Team Suzuki Alstare Leon Haslam ha battagliato finendo con il quinto tempo nella Superpole di oggi , quindi domani prenderà il via dalla seconda fila per le due manche da 24 giri. Anche se gli sarebbe piaciuto partire dalla prima fila, è ben posizionato per partire all'attacco nella prima curva ed è quindi pronto per quella che si prevede un'altra combattutissima gara. Il compagno di squadra di Leon, Sylvain Guintoli, si è migliorato rispetto ad ieri ed è stato in lizza per le prime due file della griglia fino a quando un piccolo errore in Superpole 2 non gli ha permesso di entrare nella Superpole 3.
Cal Crutchlow ha ottenuto la Superpole di oggi, la terza della stagione, con il compagno di squadra della Yamaha James Toseland secondo. Terzo è Carlos Checa (Ducati), con Michel Fabrizio (Ducati) quarto. Il ritmo di qualifica non era meno frenetico del solito e alla fine ci sono 13 piloti in un secondo.

Sono abbastanza soddisfatto del quinto posto di oggi ed in realtà lo preferisco al quarto, perchè mi trovo in una posizione migliore per partire all'attacco nella prima curva. E' semplice e se farò una buona partenza sono sicuro che sarò lì o lì vicino. Sono contento perché il mio passo di gara è buono e anche i miei giri con la gomma da gara lo sono. Sarà una giornata difficile domani , siamo in sei piloti che possiamo vincire la gara. Kyalami è una pista in cui è difficile superare perché c'è più o meno una sola traiettoria. Quando si esce dalla linea per passare qualcuno per esempio, è facile andare nello sporco o nella parte sconnessa della pista e quindi fare un errore. La prima curva non è molto lontana e poi ci sono una serie di curve in cui è impossibile passare, quindi partire bene è fondamentale. Domani mattina faremo pochi ritocchi alla moto per vedere se possiamo migliorare ulteriormente. Ma, se no, sarà pronta per correre e lo sarò anch'io .

Sono deluso della mia Superpole, se non fosse stato per un piccolo errore nell'ultimo split, sono sicuro che sarei entrato nella Superpole finale. Ciò mi avrebbe permesso un posto in seconda fila, invece dovrò partire per le gare di domani dalla terza fila. La prima curva è molto stretta e quindi è molto importante fare due buone partenze. Se non lo faccio, sarò in difficoltà di sicuro perchè è difficile sorpassare.La buona notizia è che sono contento del mio set up da gara e molto soddisfatto della mia gomme da gara. E 'un peccato che non mi sono qualificato meglio, perché sono sicuro che sarebbero state due gare più facili. Come ho già detto, questo campionato è così competitivo ed i tempi sul giro sono molto vicini e se si fa il più piccolo degli errori vieni punito molto.
