Leon posted a lap of 1:43.476, to finish ahead of Michel Fabrizio (Ducati), Carlos Checa (Ducati) and Max Biaggi (Aprilia). Leon’s team mate Sylvain Guintoli ended the day with the fourteenth fastest time, but is confident of significant improvement tomorrow

It’s always good to be the fastest in qualifying, but it’s more important what we do in Superpole and on Sunday. We were successful during our tests here back in January and it’s good that we have done well again today. The track did not feel so grippy today (especially in first practice), but once everybody has put in more laps, that will improve and the times will come down.No big dramas today, just trying to find a good set-up for the bike and be in good shape when Superpole starts tomorrow.

Sylvain - 14th, 1:44.423

Even though the result doesn’t show it, for me today was a good first day of practice. We started off with one of my bikes using a set-up from the last race in Phillip Island and the other one with the set-up we used here during the tests in January. The Phillip Island set-up actually worked better here today, so that’s the one we will start working with tomorrow and improve. The grip level was not great today but that’s probably because there’s not enough rubber down on the track after all the rain over the winter. I’m sure the lap times will fall as more rubber is laid down.

Il Pilota Leon Haslam del Team Suzuki Alstare ha aperto la strada durante la prima sessione di qualifiche della seconda gara del Campionato Mondiale Superbike presso l'Autodromo di Algarve a Portimao. Leon ha registrato un giro di 1:43.476, finendo davanti a Michel Fabrizio (Ducati), Carlos Checa (Ducati) e Max Biaggi (Aprilia). Il compagno di squadra di Leon, Sylvain Guintoli, ha concluso la giornata con il miglior 14° tempo, ma è fiducioso di migliorare sensibilmente domani

E' sempre bello essere il più veloce in qualifica, ma è più importante quello che faremo in Superpole e domenica. aver fatto bene anche oggi.
La pista oggi non aveva grip, soprattutto nel primo tutno di prove,ma dopo che tutti avranno fatto molti giri migliorerà ed i tempi scenderanno.
Non grandi drammi oggi, sto solo cercando di trovare un buon set-up per la moto e una buona forma per la Superpole di domani.

Anche se il risultato non lo dimostra, per me oggi è stata una buona prima giornata di prove. Abbiamo iniziato con una moto con il set-up dell'ultima gara a Phillip Island e l'altra con il set-up che abbiamo utilizzato qui durante i test a gennaio. Il set-up di P.Island in realtà ha funzionato meglio, quindi inizieremo domani a lavorare con quello ed a migliorare. Il livello di grip non era molto oggi, probabilmente perché non era abbastanza gommata dopo tutta la pioggia dell'inverno. Sicuramente i tempi miglioreranno quando ci sarà più gomma.
