Spaniard Carlos Checa (Ducati) shocked everybody by blasting his way to Superpole victory with a lap of 1:47.081, almost four tenths of a second faster than his nearest rival. Second was Max Biaggi (Aprilia), with Cal Crutchlow (Yamaha) third and Jakub Smrz (Ducati) fourth.

In final Superpole, I was on a flyer and, according to my first two splits, on course for the second or third quickest time. Then the red flag came out and that was the end of that. Although the session started again, I did not have any qualifiers to use and there really wasn’t enough time to make an improvement, so row two it is for me. It’s not so bad, because turn one is a long way off, but it could be bad if Max (Biaggi) makes a good start because the Aprilia is so fast and he could easily exit the first corner with a good advantage.
I’m pretty happy with my bike set-up, though of course I always think that we can improve it further. We will all sit down and look at the telemetry this evening and decide if we want to make some small changes in tomorrow morning’s warm-up. One thing is sure - tomorrow’s races are going to be long and hard and there are going to be some really good battles. The nature of this track suits the Ducatis and Aprilias and I think all of us four cylinder boys are going to have work our socks off to stay with them, but we will see what happens as the races play out. I am leading the championship now and I want to be still leading it when we leave tomorrow evening.

Before Superpole I was pretty happy because I felt that we had made a big step forward today. I missed out on getting into Superpole 3 by a whisker, probably because of a very small mistake on my fast lap. As I said before, the very smallest of mistakes can be fatal at this level and that’s how it was today. However, I am happy with the set-up of my bike and happy with my rhythm on the track today - especially as this is my first time here. The first turn is quite wide and I hope to make good starts and be in a good position as I head into it. If I can do that, I think I can fight with the front guys for sure. Tomorrow morning we’ll make some small adjustments and see if we can improve the bike further, but really it’s more or less ready to race now. I am looking forward to the races, having some good battles and getting some good results.

Il pilota del Team Suzuki Alstare Leon Haslam è stato in corsa nella Superpole 3 per un posto in prima fila fino a quando la caduta di Jonathan Rea (Honda) e Jakub Smrz ( Ducati) ha causato l'esposizione della bandiera rossa fermando la sessione a pochi minuti dalla fine.
Anche se la Superpole 3 ha poi ripreso, Leon aveva già utilizzato la sua gomma da qualifica e così non ha potuto andare più forte e quindi partirà domani per la gara di 21 giri dalla seconda fila della griglia. Il suo compagno di squadra, Sylvain, ha migliorato rispetto a ieri e probabilmente sarebbe finito in seconda fila se non avesse fatto un piccolo errore in uno split. Il francese partirà dalla terza fila.

Nella volata finale dell'ultima Superpole, secondo i miei primi due split, ero in corsa per il secondo o terzo tempo. Poi con l'esposizione della bandiera rossa è stata la fine. Anche se la sessione è ripresa, non avevo un'altra gomma da qualifica da usare e non c'è stato abbastanza tempo per fare un miglioramento, così non sono in prima fila. Non è comunque così male, perchè la prima curva è molto lontana, ma potrebbe essere negativo se Max (Biaggi) facesse una buona partenza perchè l'Aprilia è velocissima e potrebbe uscire dalla prima curva con un bel vantaggio.
Sono abbastanza contento del mio set up della moto, anche se naturalmente penso sempre che possiamo migliorare ulteriormente. Noi tutti ci siederemo a guardare la telemetria questa sera per decidere se vogliamo fare alcune piccole variazioni da provare domani mattina nel warm-up. Una cosa è certa - le gare di domani saranno lunghe e difficili e ci saranno alcune battaglie veramente belle. Questo tracciato è per Ducati e Aprilia e penso che tutti noi con le quattro cilindri dovremo lavorare duramente per rimanere con loro, ma vedremo cosa succederà in gara. Sono in testa al campionato e lo voglio ancora essere quando ce ne andremo domani sera.

Dopo la prima Superpole ero abbastanza contento perché avevamo fatto un grande passo avanti. La Superpole tre mi è sfuggita per un soffio, forse a causa di un errore molto piccolo nel mio giro veloce. Come ho detto altre volte, il più piccolo degli errori può essere fatale a questo livello e così è stato oggi. Tuttavia, sono contento del set-up della mia moto e felice del mio ritmo in pista oggi - specialmente perché è la mia prima volta qui. La prima curva è abbastanza ampia e spero di fare una buona partenza ed essere in una buona posizione mentre ci arrivo. Se riesco a farlo, credo di poter lottare con i ragazzi davanti di sicuro. Domani mattina faremo alcune piccole modifiche per vedere se possiamo migliorare ulteriormente la moto, ma in realtà siamo più o meno pronti per correre. Non vedo l'ora della gare, per fare belle battaglie e ottenere buoni risultati.
