He got a lift back to the pits and then went to the Clinica Mobile where he had seventeen stitches put into his left arm just above his elbow. Fortunately he suffered no other injuries and will be fit for the next round in Misano towards the end of June.
His team mate Sylvain Guintoli had his best raceday of the year since the opening round in Australia back in February. He battled for eighth in race one and then took a superb sixth in race two.
Carlos Checa (Ducati) should have won both races today, but two retirements when he had been comfortably in the lead, ruined the Spaniard’s hopes of glory. Checa’s misfortune was Max Biaggi’s gain. Once Checa pulled out, the Italian was able to race to the flag unchallenged and take his third double of the season and leapfrog Leon in the standings.

Leon - Race 1: 2nd, Race 2: DNF

Obviously I am very disappointed how the day ended. Crashing out is bad enough, but losing the championship lead is another. I always knew that today was going to be very hard and the races proved that. I was fortunate to get second place in race one and unfortunate to crash in race two. Carlos (Checa) should’ve won both races and I feel a bit sorry for him. He had led both, but then had to pull out. As a result, Max got lucky, but racing is like that sometimes.
I didn’t make particularly good starts today and maybe that caused some of the problems. In race one, I was right behind Jakub (Smrz) when his Ducati blew up. I and the front of my Suzuki got covered in oil and I tried to use a different line to him so that I wouldn’t crash on his oil. I think I was stuck behind him for over a lap, but luckily he pulled off the track and I was able to get my head down and chase after the leaders. I moved through the field and got into third and happy with that until Carlos stopped and I was gifted second.
I was tenth at the end of the first lap in race two and once again I had a lot of work to do to catch the leaders. I managed to get up to sixth after seven laps, but then the bike suddenly let go at one of the hairpins and I was highsided. I had a load of stitches put into my left arm, just above the elbow, but I will be OK for Misano.

Sylvain - Race 1: 8th, Race 2: 6th

Today was a much better day for me and I am happy because I think I managed to find a good rhythm and race pace - all this on my first time at this track. I had some little clutch problems in race one and starting from way down the grid is never easy, so I don’t think eighth was too bad considering. My pace in the second race was a lot better and I enjoyed fighting with the other riders as I moved up the field. Today was my best result since Australia and it’s about time I got back to being competitive. Now I want to build on this, keep up the good work and push hard right from the first practice in the next round and so be in a better place on the grid at the start of raceday.

Il pilota del Team Suzuki Alstare Leon Haslam oggi nel settimo appuntamento del Campionato Mondiale Superbike al Miller Motorsports Park ha sofferto alti e bassi. Ha combattuto sportivamente ottenendo un secondo posto in gara-1 e ha lottato rimontando da una brutta partenza , ma poi un highsides della sua GSX-R 1000 lo ha fatto cadere portandolo fuori gara. E' ritornato ai box e poi è andato in Clinica Mobile dove gli hanno messo diciassette punti di sutura al braccio sinistro appena sopra il gomito. Fortunatamente non ha subito altre lesioni e sarà in forma per il prossimo round di Misano, verso la fine di giugno.

Per il suo compagno di squadra Sylvain Guintoli è stata la gara migliore dell'anno dopo la gara di apertura in Australia in febbraio. Ha combattuto per l'ottavo in gara uno e poi ha ottenuto un magnifico sesto in gara due.
Carlos Checa (Ducati), avrebbe vinto entrambe le gare di oggi, ma due ritiri mentre era comodamente in testa hanno rovinato lo spagnolo e tolto tutte le sue speranze di gloria. Dalle sventure di Checa ci ha guadagnato Max Biaggi. Una volta fuori Checa, l'italiano ha corso incontrastato verso la bandiera ottenendo due doppiette e scavalcando Leon in Campionato.

Leon - Race 1: 2nd, Race 2: DNF

Ovviamente sono molto deluso di come si è comclusa la giornata . Cadere è stato un male , e perdere la testa della classifica anche. Ho sempre saputo che oggi sarebbe stato molto difficile e le gare lo hanno dimostrato . Ho avuto la fortuna di ottenere il secondo posto in gara uno e la sfortuna di cadere in gara due. Carlos ( Checa) avrebbe vinto entrambe le manche e sono dispiaciuto per lui. Le avrebbe ottenute entrambe , ma si è ritirato. Come risultato, Max ha avuto fortuna, ma le corse a volte sono così.
Non ho fatto due buone partenze oggi e questa è stata la causa dei problemi. In gara uno, ero proprio dietro Jakub (Smrz) quando la sua Ducati è espolsa. Io e la parte anteriore della mia Suzuki siamo stati coperti di olio e ho cercato di utilizzare una linea diversa dalla sua per non finire sull'olio. Penso di essere stato bloccato dietro di lui per più di un giro, ma per fortuna poi è andato fuori dalla pista e ho potuto passarlo e inseguire il leader. Ho fatto sorpassi portandomi al terzo posto finchè Carlos si è fermato regalandomi un secondo posto.Ero decimo al termine del primo giro in gara due e ancora una volta ho avuto un sacco di lavoro da fare per catturare il leader. In sette giri ho recuperato fino al sesto posto, ma poi la moto improvvisamente mi ha sbalzato in uno dei tornanti. Mi hanno messo un bel po' di punti al braccio sinistro, appena sopra il gomito, ma sarò OK per Misano.

Sylvain - Race 1: 8th, Race 2: 6th

Oggi è stata una giornata molto migliore per me e sono contento perchè sono riuscito ad avere un buon ritmo e passo di gara. Ho avuto qualche piccolo problema di frizione in gara uno e partendo da in fondo allo schiramento non è mai facile, così non penso che un ottavo posto sia male. Il mio ritmo nella seconda gara è stata molto meglio e mi sono divertito a combattere con gli altri piloti. Oggi è stato il mio miglior risultato dall' Australia e sono più o meno tornato ad essere competitivo. Ora voglio costruire su questo, mantenere il buon lavoro e spingere dal primo turno di prove nella prossima gara e partire da una posizione migliore in griglia.
